Employment Law - Changes to Statutory Sick Pay - Unfair Dismissal – Flexible Working Time

 

From 11 April 2011, the following changes to employment payment rates will take effect:

  • Statutory Sick Pay will increase from £79.15 to £81.60;
  • The standard rates applicable for
    1. Statutory Maternity Pay,
    2. Statutory Paternity Pay
    3. Statutory Adoption Pay
    will increase from £124.88 to £128.73; and
  • Maternity allowance will increase from £124.88 to £128.73.

In February 2011, the maximum compensatory award for unfair dismissal increased from £65,300.00 to £68,400.00, whilst the maximum weekly pay for calculating statutory redundancy pay (and some other statutory rights) increased from £380.00 to £400.00.

Requests for Flexible Working Time

Also, parents with children under the age of 18 will have the right to request flexible working.  Formerly, this right was limited to parents with children under the age of 17 (18 where the child has a disability).
