Regulatory Law – REACH – DCM Paint Strippers – HSE Consultation CD265
The consultation to amend the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (“REACH”) Enforcement Regulations 2008 in relation to dichloromethane (“DCM”)-based paint strippers is now under way.
The subject of the consultation is the Health and Safety Executive’s (“HSE”) proposal to include an exception to the European ban on certain uses of DCM-based paint strippers. In particular, the consultation document proposes to introduce training requirements and a mandatory certificate in order for professional users of DCM-based paint strippers to purchase and use them.
The consultation began on 4 November 2013 and will clearly be of great interest to those working with paint strippers. Responses to the consultation process should be sent by 3 January 2014.
